Nikiski Community Recreation Center Programs

Flag Football

NPRSA’s flag football program is for boys and girls in 4th through 8th grade.  The season begins in August and runs through the end of September.  Teams play two games per week, at the Nikiski Pool Fields.  Registration begins the first of August.

Nikiski Youth Basketball (NYB)

NPRSA’s NYB program is a coed league for students in 3rd through 6th grade.  The season begins in October and runs through the beginning of December.  This program is divided into a 3rd and 4th grade division and a 5th and 6th grade division.  Practices and games are held at NCRC.  Registration begins in September.

5th & 6th Grade Interleague Basketball

NPRSA’s 5th/6th Interleague basketball program is for boys & girls in 5th and 6th grade.  The season begins in October and runs through the beginning of December.  This program collaborates with the Kenai Boys & Girls Club.  This enables our Nikiski teams to compete with Kenai and Soldotna teams.  Teams play two games per week, one in Kenai and one at NCRC.  Registration begins in September.

Super Sonic Ultra Violet Youth Volleyball

NPRSA’s youth volleyball program is a coed league for students in 4th through 6th grade.  The season begins at the end of January and runs through mid March.  Practices and games are held at NCRC.  Registration begins at the end of December. 

7th & 8th Grade Basketball

NPRSA’s 7th/8th Interleague basketball program is for boys & girls in 7th and 8th grade.  The season begins in January and runs through mid March.  This program collaborates with the Kenai Boys & Girls Club.  This enables our Nikiski teams to compete with Kenai and Soldotna teams.  Teams play two games per week, one in Kenai and one at NCRC.  Registration begins in January.

Hershey Track and Field Meet

NPRSA’s Hershey Track and Field Event is open to students ages 9 to 14 years old.  The local Hershey Track and Field Meet is held every year during the month of May.  Running practices and field events are held at the local elementary schools and the track meet is held at the Nikiski High School.  Local meet results are submitted to the state coordinator and the top five participants in the state are chosen to represent Alaska at the National Competition.  These five participants get an all expense paid trip to Hershey, PA to compete in the National Competition.  Registration begins in April.

Pitch Hit & Run

NPRSA’s Pitch Hit & Run Competition is open to students ages 7 to 14 years old.  The local Pitch Hit & Run event is held every year during late May or early June.  Participants compete in three skills competitions: pitching, hitting and running.  Local results are submitted to the state and then sectional coordinators and top finishers have a chance to attend the National Finals.  Registration begins in May.

Family Fun in the Midnight Sun

NPRSA’s Family Fun in the Midnight Sun Event is a community wide event held every year on the third Saturday of June.  NPRSA coordinates with the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce and the Nikiski Fire Department to organize a fun filled day of activities.  Activities include but are not limited to food booths, carnival booths, music, games, a 5-mile walk/run, age appropriate games with prizes, and family prize drawings.  The whole community gathers each year on this day to enjoy the sun, the fun, and the games!  Booths spaces are available to organizations.

Summer Day Camp

NPRSA’s Summer Day Camp is for boys and girls in 1st through 6th grade.  The camp begins on the second week in June and runs through the first week in August.  The camp runs three days a week utilizing the NPRSA facilities.  Activities include but are not limited to cooking, arts & crafts, games, fitness, nature hikes, field trips, sports, prizes and much, much more!  The camp is held at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center with registration beginning in June.

Northern Lights Sports Camps

Each summer a variety of sports camps are offered for the youth of our community.  Past camps have included football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.  Please check with the Recreation Department for camps offered this year.

Teen Center

NPRSA’s Teen Center is open to teens ages 13 to 18 years old who are still enrolled in school.  The Teen Center is open year round with transportation available from Nikiski High School during the school year.  The Teen Center is comprised of two rooms filled with games and activities including pool, table tennis, foosball, air hockey, video games, movies, computers, board games and more.  The Teen Center is located in the Nikiski Community Recreation Center.  Yearly memberships are available.  Please contact the Recreation Department for more information.

Skateboard Park

NPRSA’s Skateboard Park is open to participants with registered Skate Park ID’s.  The Skate Park opens in May and closes in September.  The Skate Park is located next to the Nikiski Community Recreation Center.  Safety equipment is recommended for all users, and adult supervision is recommended for children.  Please see the NCRC staff for paperwork and ID’s.

Open Gyms

NPRSA offers a variety of open gyms throughout the year.  These gym times include but are not limited to basketball open gym, volleyball open gym, toddler time, home school gym, and family gym.  Open gyms are held at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center Gymnasium.  Please contact the Recreation Department for more information.

Adult Dodgeball League

NPRSA’s Adult Dodgeball League is open to Adults 17 and over.  The season begins in March and runs through the end of April.  League night is held once a week at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center Gymnasium.  The program uses official NADA rules and equipment.  Registration begins at the end of February.

Full Swing Golf

NPRSA’s Full Swing Golf Simulator is open to users 16 and older.  Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  The simulator has over 20 world-class courses to choose from, and also allows users to practice their swing on the driving range, practice approach shots and to chip and putt.  The Simulator is located at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center.  Reservations are preferred, walk-ins welcome.

Arts & Crafts Class

NPRSA’s Arts and Crafts classes are for students in 1st through 6th grade.  Classes are offered once a week throughout the school year.  Classes are held at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center.  No pre-registration required.

Adult Volleyball League

NPRSA’s Adult Volleyball League is open to adults 18 and over.  Season runs March-April. Games are held once or twice weekly depending on the number of teams. Games are held at the NCRC. Registration begins in February. 

Community Garage Sale

Each summer NPRSA offers a community garage sale one Saturday in June or July. The sale is held in the NCRC parking lot. Spaces are available for rent to set up your treasures. Contact the recreation department for information on fees and dates.

The Nikiski Community Recreation Center is open Monday through Saturday. Hours of operation are 10am to 8pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 6pm Saturday.
